Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
